Confirmation preparation within the Lakeshore Catholic Faith Community for students who do not attend a Catholic high school begins with high school faith formation classes during ninth and tenth grade. Registration for high school faith formation may be found at the start of summer on the PK-High School Faith Formation page.
All students, including those attending Catholic high schools, must also attend a four-week Confirmation preparation program and retreat in the fall of their junior year. Confirmation is celebrated as a family of parishes in the fall of each year. A separate registration form for this immediate preparation program will also be available online and in hard copy by July 1, 2026.
If your child has enrolled in Faith Formation as a ninth and tenth grader and they are planning to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in the fall of 2026, please review the information below:
1.) Confirmation name: This must be the name of a saint, blessed, or biblical figure. We encourage our students to select someone they feel connected to, admire, or also inspires them. It could be the patron saint of the job they want to pursue or their favorite hobby. Whatever name that is chosen, it should be special and meaningful for their spiritual life.
2.) Confirmation sponsor: A sponsor is a support person for someone's spiritual life. They help and serve as an excellent example of a practicing Catholic. Sponsors must be over 16 years of age and have received the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation. If married, their marriage must have taken place within the Catholic Church. A sponsor cannot be the parent of the candidate. They must be a Catholic in good standing, which means that they are registered parishioners of a parish and attend Mass regularly. All sponsors must produce a letter of recommendation from their home parish, including those who are members of the Lakeshore Catholic Faith Community. A letter of recommendation for a sponsor within the LCFC may be obtained by contacting the family office at 716-780-7020.
3.) Service Project: Students must complete three service projects during the calendar year they are Confirmed. One project must take place in the home (making a family meal, assisting with a home improvement project, etc.). One project must take place within the family of parishes (volunteering as a greeter, lector, or in the music ministry at Mass, working a lawn fete or BBQ, etc.). One project must take place in the community (volunteering at a soup kitchen, donating blood, signing up for a charity 5k, etc.).
The schedule of class and retreat dates for Fall 2026 is below. The dates and location of the sacramental celebration and rehearsal will be announced about 6 weeks in advance. Thank you!
